"Darvinte Parinamam" is a Malayalam film directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery starring an ensemble cast including Chemban Vinod Jose, Maniyanpilla Raju, Sreejith Ravi, Anu Sithara, Nirmal Palazhi. The screenplay is written by Lijo's brother M. T. Vellore Mahesh. The movie revolves around the lives of two families residing in a small village in Kerala - Kunjan (Chemban), his wife Jisha (Anu Sithara) and their daughters; Amrutha (Nirmal Palazhi) and her husband Gopan (Sreejith). Gopan moved to Mumbai a long time ago and has been sending money regularly for his family. Gopan's brother-in-law, Kunjan is a drunkard with a nasty character and is always at loggerheads with the villagers. Ani (Maniyanpilla Raju), Gopan's friend, arrives from Mumbai to meet him, only to discover that Gopan has been missing from home for months now. Meanwhile, Amrutha gives birth to a baby girl Mariamma. One day, Ani receives an anonymous call from a man who claims that he has killed Gopan and wants to meet up with Amrutha. After getting terrified, Gopan's father-in-law calls a village doctor, Pisharody (Sudheesh Sankarankutty) to provide an antidote to ward off evil spirits. But while being treated by Pisharody, Kunjan becomes possessed by a spirit and runs away from the house in the middle of the night. He is later found sleeping on a hillside. The doctor suggests that the only way to get rid of the evil spirit inside Kunjan's body would be through proper treatment from a doctor in town. Kunjan's wife Jisha, who has borne him two daughters and a son, decides to move to the city with her young daughter Amrutha. The village elders decide that if Kunjan is able to survive for one month in the city, he would be fit enough to return home after performing an important ritual named 'nampakazhcha' at the temple. On the day of his return, he manages to make it back home and comes face-to-face with Jisha. But on spotting Gopan's spirit-possessed body lying motionless on a bed in his house, Kunjan faints and dies instantly. Gopan's spirit now possesses Jisha as well. After performing the ritual, the villagers drive Gopan's spirit away from Jisha's body. The movie ends with Kunjan's family members - Amrutha, Gopan and their infant daughter Mariamma - living together in the city.Principal photography commenced on 21 May 2016 in Perumbavoor, Kerala.
